In The Shadow of Giants
Mormon Row · Grand Teton National Park · Wyoming
The mountains measure time in ages. The barn measures it in weathered boards.
Photograph, story and narration by Mike Ferrara.
At Mormon Row, a weathered barn stands beneath the snow-covered Tetons. Sunlight catches the grain of its wooden walls, bringing out warm browns against the cool rock and snow. The grasses have turned gold, and the shadows beneath the eaves reveal the uneven edges of the old timber. What draws me to this scene is the relationship between the barn and the mountains. One was built board by board, shaped by human hands and the practical work of making a life here. Behind it, the Tetons rise on a scale that makes that effort feel both small and remarkable. The barn holds its place in the landscape. Weathered, imperfect, and still standing—in the shadow of giants.
