The Last Look
Grand Teton National Park • Wyoming
The mountains disappeared moments later.
Photograph, story and narration by Mike Ferrara.
The storm had been building all afternoon. Dark clouds rolled across the Tetons while photographers packed their gear and headed for the parking lot, convinced the day was over. I stayed. For a few quiet minutes, the light slipped beneath the storm, setting the autumn landscape ablaze while the first snow of the season dusted the peaks. Then, almost as quickly as it appeared, the mountains disappeared behind a curtain of rain and cloud. This photograph became the last clear view of the Tetons before the storm swallowed them completely.
